Smaller maintenance jobs are something that everyone eventually has to have done on their car. Whether it’s an oil change or a fluid flush, it’s eventually all necessary. With your braking system however, the telling signs that you need new parts don’t always come at a mileage indicator — it takes your eye to notice! So when is the best time for new brake rotors? We explore some of the indicators below.

Low Stopping Power

If you find yourself slamming your foot on the brakes in order to reduce speed, that can be a big indicator of a problem. This typically points to worn out pads or rotors, which are the two main components to your entire system. It’s important that if this happens to you, you have it looked at before it becomes an issue and stopping becomes impossible.

Vibrations

When applying brake pressure, you may feel a vibrating sensation through the pedal and into your foot. This is typically the sign of a warped rotor — something that isn’t as straight and effective as it could be. This happens to old rotors, or ones that are subject to excess use and abuse. Should you feel this in your braking system at anytime, make sure you have it checked out before you encounter a larger problem.

If you think you need a new braking system in your car, it’s best to not wait on this particular job, as the difference between good brakes and worn out brakes can be the difference between being in an accident and being safe.
