With fall on the way, there’s a lot of things to prepare for. One thing is certain — your car is going to need more than just gas and a car wash to run properly. Especially for older cars, maintenance is important to note when the weather starts to change — and for good reason! Instead of allowing your car to be susceptible to the change in weather and what comes with it, perform the maintenance below and your car will be running as good as it ever has!
Get An Oil Change
As oil is usually good to change for whatever reason, try changing to an oil that will perform a bit better in the winter. This is so that you can keep your engine components lubricated and healthy while you’re driving. As the temperature changes, it needs to be reflected in oil as well so that you can keep that car in top running shape!
Top Off Fluids
Keeping antifreeze and other fluids topped off in your car is a great idea as the temperature drops during the winter. Because your car will be working harder to sustain it’s optimal performance, fluids are necessary in all aspects. Additionally, this is a great time to look at all of your hoses and belts to inspect for rotting and loose fittings that can cause leaking.
Check Tires
Check your rubber for tread and make sure it has enough to safely get you to your location should it rain or snow early in the season. Even the lower tread depth can be devastating should you encounter an accident. If yours is getting low or you’re not sure where it is, make sure you’re taking it somewhere to be properly diagnosed.
