Being prepared in the car is something that almost every vehicle owner should be doing, regardless of the situation, or where you’re going. Whether something happens to you, or you feel like being a good samaritan and helping someone out on the side of the road, it’s important to have what you need. That’s why keeping yourself equipped is imperative. Here are a few things that you should be keeping in your car that you might not have realized you needed, until now.

Jumper Cables

While this might seem like a ‘duh’ item, there are still a number of things that you should be keeping in your car, even when moving. Jumper cables are certainly one of these ideas for obvious reasons. Whether you’re in need of a jump or you spot someone else who is, you have exactly what you need handy to get the job done.

Tire Sealant

If your tire starts to go flat on the highway, just pull over and inflate it, right? Probably not that easy. Even though a little bit of air loss isn’t the worst, more than you’d like is a problem while driving — and can be dangerous. Keep a tire sealant in your car for the emergencies where you just need to get somewhere. After filling the tire, you can head to the nearest tire shop to have the issue permanently fixed,

Duct Tape

While it might not seem like the most practical fix for many things, duct tape can be your best friend in a time of need. Whether your hood latch is on the fritz or a valence on the car has suddenly decided to hang down and flap, duct tape can help. This nifty (and cheap) addition can be a lifesaver when you’re faced with an issue you don’t have the tools to complete your job.

Of course, in an emergency, if you can pull over and wait for assistance, do that. If you can make it to a local shop and have your vehicle diagnosed, that’s the next best option!
